Catholics Authors

This work is an index or registry of all works by Catholics in our library. It is organized by author last name. Additionally, there is material on the general area of Catholics, as well as pertinent doctrinal observations about this group. Some authors and/or works have more detailed information about them.

Overview of Catholic Works

In general, Catholicism is a false religion based on works salvation, so the very foundation of this religious group is wrong. Few if any Catholics are truly saved, and if there are any saved Catholics, they must reject the doctrinal teaching of their church in order to be saved. Note that one of the key concepts to Catholics in their idea of salvation is that a person must be “in” or actively be a part of the Roman Catholic church to be saved. This false religion formed very early in Church history, shortly after the apostolic age.

I have rarely seen any Catholic work that really impressed me. First, I speak of the writer being saved and presenting what he says from a saved person’s perspective. I doubt any Catholic writer truly understands salvation. Secondly, I do not see Catholic writers as grasping any spiritual matter, and therefore their writings are of little use in reality.

Evaluation

In general, most real Bible scholars use very little of the Catholic writings for profitable Bible study. In my years of preaching and teaching, I rarely if ever have found a book written by a Catholic that has any merit. Most of the things that Bible scholars (in my circles) use from Catholics are points of contrast in church history or positions in the progress of church history.

I would be very sparing and basically not even look in these works unless there is a compelling reason to do so. On the other hand, if you minister to Catholics, many of these works may be useful to establish their position and refute it.
