How to Create a Book Module |
Creation of a Book Module for TheWord is easy. Step 1. Create
a blank module
Step 1. Create a blank moduleIn theWord, click on File-> New.
Three Module Types: "Commentary" - This will setup a module where each entry in the module corresponds to a Book, Chapter, or specific verse of the Bible. See Creating Commentaries for this. "Dictionary" - This will setup a module where each entry is a dictionary entry. "Generic Book" - This will set up a free form module for making a book module.
You should see something like this. I am naming this module "Delete" (so I will know to delete it later). Note that the second line ("Title") is the name of the filename, so you cannot go on without a value filename there. The rest we will come back to edit later.
Press okay and you should see the following box. Accept and go on.
You should see you new file on the BookView book selector bar (see "Delete" above). You can click on it to open it. To add chapters/topics to it, you can click the "Click here to add a new topic/subject" or Ctrl N (Ctrl+Shift+N to edit an existing Topic).
1. One is for the title, and 2. is for where it goes in the current module topic list from the cursor (highlighted topic), before after, as a child topic. On the menu bar, right click on the "Delete" title name, and you will see a drop down menu.
Here you can quickly change the abbreviation that will appear on the Book Selector line, but choose "Module properties".
Now we are back to our Module Properties. Basically fill in all of the lines that apply. The most important fields are the following:
Abbreviation - This is what will appear in the Book Selector Bar.
Here the Module Creator - (you, or me if you want me to be the contact
person for changes) If you put me as Module Creator, put your own name
as Contributor.
Here you can add whatever information on the Book.
Note the Actions at the bottom here. Before you finish your module, you need to do some stuff here. You select an option from the drop down menu here and then "Execute" it.
First thing is to automatically detect all verse references. Once you do this it is good to give a quick look over what TW has done to the module. At times it interprets something as a Bible reference when it is not. Example, "we went to the fair and saw John. 1. He was upset..." These kinds of false hits can simple be erased by selecting the link, ctrl+k, "Delete Hyperlink". Next when all formatting and editing is done, select "Prepare module for distribution" and execute.
The final step in preparing a module is lock it so that the user doesn't accidentally change or edit things in the module. This is important note so much from a copyright standpoint, but as a protection on the integrity of the module. For example, if the module has a line in it (only place where it occurs) "So the Athanasian Creed is very important..." If the module is unlocked and the user is doing things, he might click in the module and accidentally insert a letter. "So the Athanfasian Creed is very important..." Your searching will not find Athanasian anymore. So this helps the user from being frustrated and having to download the module again if he doesn't know what he did. I have been working in modules and wanted to copy a whole chapter topic, and ctrl+x instead of ctrl+c. I changed topics, and later found out that I deleted the entire chapter. I had to go back to my original source to find it again and replace it before posting it. To lock a module you unclick the check on "User Module". The next step is to make it into a exe installer module, which you will have to talk to Costas for him to help you. I can make TW exe installer modules, so you can send them to me and I will make it and send it back. Please tell me if you want me to post the module on my website (I only post free modules), because otherwise I will assume I don't have you permission.
